Femlead’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic
The Busiiro community has been hard-hit by Uganda’s COVID-19.
Due to schools in Uganda being closed, girls are being restricted to household chores and traditional gender roles are being reinforced, the chances of girls going back to school after COVID-19 are getting slimmer.
Severe poverty and food insecurity has worsened, resulting in increased hunger and malnutrition, domestic violence, unwanted pregnancies, forced marriages, rape and defilement.
Out of desperation most girls in the community are being lured into sex for money so they can buy essentials for their families.
